I wrote about Amy and Charles Haynie’s beautiful, sustianably-produced walnut bench– which appeared in the Tampa Museum of Art exhibit It’s Not Easy Being Green this summer– here in Creative Loafing. This weekend, the Haynies re-launch their retail effort, Tampa Street Market, in Seminole Heights. Yay!

Time suckage alert: with 10 designers at roughly 5 minutes each, I recommend securing [...]

October 10th, 2008 · 4 Comments
If you’re like me, you can’t get enough of Bravo’s darned addictive design-related reality shows, like Project Runway, Top Design and Shear Genius (the one about hair stylists). Well, get this–the International Academy of Art and Design has created their own online reality series, Artistik Envy, which focuses on a competition between ten multimedia and [...]

When I first heard that Florida Craftsmen Gallery’s new exhibit would be all about necklaces, honestly, I was disappointed. I don’t know why—whatever the theme, FCG’s exhibits always manage to bridge definitions of art and craft, new and old materials and [...]

The Second Coming at Pale Horse
March 12th, 2008 · No Comments
Organizer Brandon Dunlap says this show’s a good one. With a line-up of more than 30 artists (!) and a chance to see what Pale Horse owner Chris Parks has done with his St. Petersburg space now that the business no longer includes tattooing– well, I’m thinking there are multiple reasons to check this show [...]

Is it just me—or is the number of art events taking place this weekend insane?
