Paper: Off & On the Wall
Introduction: Florida Craftsmen presents Off & On the Wall, a national juried and invitational exhibition of original wallpaper designs. Starting in 2007 with the highly successful At Home with Crafts, and following in 2008 with Architectural Details and Other Decorative Crafts, Florida Craftsmen plans a yearly exhibition dedicated to the artists’ unique contribution to the building, interiors and life style industries.

Exhibition: Paper: Off & On The Wall
Dates: May 29-July 24, 2009
Description: A national juried and invitational exhibition of original wallpaper designs: includes handmade or original design commercially printed wallpaper.
Curated in collaboration with: Megan Aquilina, Managing Editor of Home Miami Magazine
Submission requirements and fees: Artists submit a digital file in jpeg format of the wallpaper design. The submission fee is $25.00. Fee is waived for workshop participants.

Acceptable formats include: Roll minimum of 8 foot drop or

3 repeat minimum wallpaper sample

Insurance: In house insurance provided by Florida Craftsmen, Inc.

Workshop Description: Explore processes of transforming your own original ideas, motifs and aesthetic vocabulary into surprising and unique applications for artist created wallpaper designs–and beyond. Consider the crossover possibilities of handmade or commercially printed wallpaper. Think of wallpaper as visual form, stimulant, environment – not backdrop!
Leader: Dolores Coe, visual artist and former faculty and Director of the Core Studio Program at Ringling College of Art and Design. She has taught a variety of courses spanning drawing, painting, design & digital/time- based media.

Program:
10 a.m. Working the Wall-Intro to contemporary exhibitions, venues and artist applications; Survey & Ideas
10:30 a.m. Design Techniques: Creating Modules, Motifs, Patterns, Color Ideas & Guerilla Actions
12 p.m. Lunch and peer exchange
1-3 p.m. Creating & transforming designs and ideas into digital and/or traditional formats; preparing for reproduction
Outcome: Explore hands on conceptual design techniques
Learn how to transform ideas and imagery into digital formats appropriate for wallpaper design
Increased knowledge of available resources
Materials: Bring: A single representative sample of your work
(For example: drawing, photograph, painting, ceramic patterns, fused glass, weavings and original collages)
A motif, design, drawing element or symbol— you use in your work, if desired
If available, straight edge, exacto knife or scissors, pencil
Laptop: Not required but desirable if available
Mediums: Any
Workshop Fee*: Members $130-Non-Members $150 payable at time of reservation-non-refundable
*Includes application fee for the juried exhibition
