Cecilia Lueza’s Diversity on display in Chattanooga

September 9th, 2008 · No Comments

St. Petersburg artist Cecilia Lueza periodically sends out a email newsletter about her latest work. (Great marketing technique, by the way - and she does a good job of not sending the newsletter so often that it feels like spam.) Her latest project is a public sculpture on display now in Chattanooga (above). One of the reasons her post caught my eye is that she’s joined in the Chattanooga group by an artist whose work is part of the new, recently launched Clearwater public art initiative, Sculpture360Hanna Jubran. Small world…

Chattanooga Third Biennial Sculpture Exhibition - Chattanooga, Tennessee

Seven new pieces of public art, chosen specifically for Chattanooga by the Public Art Committee, were installed in August 2008. This is the third juried sculpture exhibit to be displayed on the First Street Walk way since the competition was established in 2004 under Mayor Bob Corker. The participating artists are: Aaron Alderman, Garry Bibbs, Miggy Buck, Cecilia Lueza, Hanna Jubran, Bret Price and Valeria Yamamoto. The opening of the exhibition took place on August 23 with a presentation by Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield and Public Art Program Director Rachel Hildebrandt.

Diversity by Cecilia Lueza represents the ethnic diversity that we enjoy in the United States and though each face represents a different ethnic background they all share the same colors so as to show that we all belong to one race, the human race.

The artworks will be on display for a period of 18 months. At the end of the show, one work will be selected for purchase for inclusion in the city’s permanent collection.
