Jade Dellinger, curator of MashUp at USF CAM, sent me a link to this highly amusing video earlier today. My only disappointment: the reporter didn’t rock out (which everyone else who participates in the project does) before smashing the guitar. I was there on Friday night for the opening and additional guitar smashings - most poignantly, a pre-adolescent boy who needed some help from dad - and will have some video to share soon. In the meantime, enjoy this collision of TV news (an intriguing performative realm unto itself?) and contemporary art.

This was great. Reminds me of the story Paul Wilborn told me about he and some friends going to the Falk Theatre sometime in the 60’s to see a little known band called The Who. After Pete Townsend smashed his guitar he offered it to a friend of Paul’s who said “No thanks. Its broken.”
