A brief update: Wednesday’s fundraiser at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center for the Imago Art Gallery artists took in over $25,000 in ticket, drink, and auction sales and donations from generous individuals. Wow.
In the crush of leaving for the holidays, I have not yet been able to find out whether the city of Dunedin voted [...]

I know I just gave Resist Today a shout out last week, but they sent out another email announcing even more fabulous handmade, screen printed wallets– these by the super-talented, Tampa-based Jay Giroux. Each wallet is one-of-a-kind (as in, a gazillion other people can’t buy it at Urban Outfitters) and sells for $84.

REDUCED, a black-and-white show at the West Tampa Center for the Arts, opens Friday evening from 6-10 p.m. I went by for a preview this afternoon, and there’s quite a bit of good work in this show—particularly considering that the highest price tag you’ll see is $200.
Perhaps the best example is Brooklyn-based [...]

The St. Petersburg Times published this story Monday about a devastating fire at Dunedin’s Imago Art Collective. 15 local artists have lost much of their work and supplies; the building’s owner– also an artist– has suffered a loss estimated at $500,000 by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, according to the article.
This latest news via an [...]

St. Petersburg’s Central Art Supply Company and the Studio@620 are teaming up to produce “The Juried Art Show.”
Jurors Erika Greenberg-Schneider (owner of Bleu Acier and master printmaker) and William Jeffett (curator of exhibitions, The Salvador Dalí Museum) will select 50 works for this exhibition with a two-pronged theme of common ground and coexistence. The call [...]

I’d like to thank everyone who tuned in to Art Squeeze for the sights and sounds of Miami Basel 2007, brought to you by our unofficial corporate sponsors: Dr. Scholl’s, Tylenol (Extra Strength), and more than a dozen Mexican and European breweries.
On a final Basel-related note, here’s an interior shot from Deon Blackwell’s exhibit, Body [...]

Did I unknowingly save the best for last? Maybe.
New York galleries Pierogi and Ronald Feldman Fine Arts and London’s Hales opted to go it alone (as the first two did last year), renting a Wynwood warehouse for their own exhibition rather than joining one of the fairs.
As a result, the three galleries were each able [...]
